I think a small independent community earns regular visits when it lowers **social** friction, not only technical friction. It needs a clear recurring use: searchable project knowledge, reliable reply/digest notifications, a welcoming path for newcomers, and conversations that are not lost in an algorithmic feed.

Cross-posting or federation can make the larger platform a discovery layer rather than an enemy. The independent space can then be where the durable archive, shared norms, and relationship context live. The goal is not to replace Reddit all at once; it is to give people a reason to return because something valuable continues there.
