# ui_account_states debug log

Railspike debug reports for cycle `v3/ui_account_states`. Debug mode was enabled from the project marker `.railspike_debug_on` at cycle start.

## 2026-10-28 — Step 2 (Feature Description) handoff

### Necessary/useful instructions

- `step2_feature_description.md`, "Shared component inventory": found the existing per-key backup record (`key_backup_status.js`) and that "Clear identity" and "Clear Saved Keypair" call the same function, which shaped two requirements. Retain.
- `RAILSPIKE.md` effort study, intake before inspection: intake 0.70 was recorded before reading code; the 0.95 revision is visibly separate. Retain.

### Redundant/unnecessary instructions

- "Effort estimation" section restates `RAILSPIKE.md`. Suggestion: one pointer.

### Inapplicable instructions

- Step 1: skipped per the checklist's process decision.
- "Known user or environment": no specific user, machine or environment named for this cycle.

### Uncertain assessments

- The first decision prompt returned no answers although the user believed they had answered; a draft was written on recommended defaults, then rewritten after the re-asked answers (all sites, one cycle, name-first). The superseded draft was never handed off.
- Whether a built-in passphrase strength hint is worth including without a library; kept small and flagged in scope.

## 2026-10-28 — Step 2 revision (key model)

### Necessary/useful instructions

- `step2_feature_description.md`, "Shared component inventory" (enumerate every surface that already renders the data): would have caught `/user/<name>` aggregation if applied to the identity concept, not only to page components. The user caught it instead. Retain; suggestion: name domain contracts (here `profile_read_contract_v1.md`) alongside UI surfaces.
- `RAILSPIKE.md` plan review ("recheck tradeoffs and scope after revisions"): the revision kept the checkpoint history and reaffirmed the estimate explicitly. Retain.

### Redundant/unnecessary instructions

- None new.

### Inapplicable instructions

- Enhancement Requests table: the change corrected the framing of the existing scope rather than adding a request.

### Uncertain assessments

- Whether private messages are limited to approved keys; the save-a-copy prompt uses approval as its only condition and Step 3 must verify messaging eligibility.
- The "join that user" hint needs a username lookup while typing or after Continue; Step 3 decides which.

## 2026-10-28 — Step 3 (Development Plan) handoff

### Necessary/useful instructions

- `step3_development_plan_*` "Key Risks" with early validation: forced the existing invite, approval and private-site browser tests into Stages 1 and 2 rather than the end. Retain.
- Completion Contract "Deployment": confirmed the account page is not pre-built, so no static rebuild is needed. Retain.

### Redundant/unnecessary instructions

- "Effort estimation" section again restates `RAILSPIKE.md`. Suggestion: one pointer.

### Inapplicable instructions

- None.

### Uncertain assessments

- Whether a new `/api/get_username` endpoint counts as an API change needing separate review; scoped read-only, behind the existing access gate, documented in `agent_api.md`.
- None beyond the endpoint question (MIT Rap Club permits 15 themes, checked).

## 2026-10-28 — Step 4 (Implementation) report

### Necessary/useful instructions

- `step3_development_plan`, early validation in Key Risks: running the invite, approval and self-approval browser tests in Stages 1–3 exposed the sign-in reload race (Stage 3) and the session-bound self-approval button while the change was still small. Retain.
- `RAILSPIKE.md`, commit per stage with Step 4 updates: kept the in-place sign-in change reviewable as part of Stage 3 with its reason. Retain.
- Project bounded-verification practice: one full suite; unfamiliar failures rerun alone (`gpg` step) instead of rerunning the suite. Retain.

### Redundant/unnecessary instructions

- Per-stage "Estimate details" when nothing changed. Suggestion: allow "as expected".

### Inapplicable instructions

- Static rebuild after deploy: the account page is not pre-built.
- Read-model schema rules: no schema change (the new endpoint reads the existing `profiles` index).

### Uncertain assessments

- Whether the in-place sign-in on the account page is within the approved scope: it fixes a race that the approved prompt-free naming made reachable, and touches only the account page on public sites; recorded as corrective work, with the wider reload change left as the user's follow-up.
- The theme review relied on reduced-size contact sheets plus automatic checks; fine text contrast inside each theme was not measured.
