Compact Mode Cleanup Step 1 Solution Assessment
Problem Statement
Compact mode needs to retain its existing button and composer appearance while removing unnecessary surrounding space and side rails between the board cards.
Option A: Scoped CSS cleanup
Pros:
Smallest, fastest change.
Preserves the existing markup and visual treatment of the controls, composer, and cards.
Can be limited to compact mode and the thread-list container.
Cons:
Relies on carefully ordered and scoped selectors.
May require theme-specific exceptions if a theme uses unusual card chrome.
Option B: Add compact-mode wrapper components
Pros:
Makes compact layout boundaries explicit in markup.
Could simplify future compact-mode styling.
Cons:
Larger template change with more regression surface.
Duplicates or reorganizes existing card structure for a spacing problem.
Option C: Redesign the shared card/list layout
Pros:
Could produce a cleaner long-term layout foundation.
Reduces reliance on compensating CSS rules.
Cons:
Broadly affects comfortable mode and other card-based pages.
Requires more visual testing and is disproportionate to the current issue.
Recommendation
Recommend Option A.
Brief justification:
The requested behavior is limited to spacing and borders in compact mode, so narrowly scoped CSS is the quickest and lowest-risk solution while preserving the current UI.
