Forte Board View Step 1 Solution Assessment
Problem Statement
The Tools page needs a link into Forte, but Forte currently only exists per-thread; there is no board-level entry point that lists threads the way the single-thread Forte view lists replies.
Option A: Flat board list, click-through navigation only
List pane shows all threads (flat, newest first, reusing the board's existing fetch/sort), no content pane. Clicking a thread row navigates directly to that thread's existing /threads/{id}/forte reader.
Pros:
Smallest addition; reuses the existing single-thread Forte reader as-is.
No new "what does the content pane show for a thread" design question.
Cons:
Two clicks to read a thread (board list, then into the thread) rather than one.
Option B: Flat board list with in-place content pane
List pane shows all threads (flat, newest first). Content pane shows the selected thread's root post, with a link to open that thread's full nested Forte reader for replies.
Pros:
Closer to the single-thread Forte reader's feel (select-and-preview in one page).
Cons:
Duplicates "render a post's content" concerns already solved per-thread; needs its own decision about what happens to replies (preview only vs. also nested here).
Option C: Folder-tree + thread list (full three-pane Forte Agent layout)
Adds a left-hand folder/board tree (matching the original Forte Agent screenshot's three-pane layout) alongside a thread list and content pane.
Pros:
Most faithful to the original Forte Agent reference screenshot.
Cons:
Meaningfully larger UI surface (a new navigation concept - folders/boards as a tree) beyond what either Step 1 assessment in this feature recommended.
Board/tag grouping semantics would need their own design pass.
Recommendation
Recommend Option C.
Brief justification:
User explicitly chose the full three-pane layout over the smaller Option A this document recommended, to most closely match the original Forte Agent reference screenshot (folder tree + message list + content pane).
Still backend/frontend-only, reusing existing board/tag data — no protocol/export work, no schema changes.
Scope must stay bounded: the folder tree lists existing boards/tags only (no new grouping concept, no per-user folder customization), to avoid open-ended navigation-design scope creep.
