Forte New Thread Dialog Status — Step 4: Implementation Summary

Stage 1 - Always-visible status line, default "Ready"

  • Changes:

    • templates/partials/paned_board_new_thread_dialog.php: added <p class="paned-compose-status" data-role="compose-identity-status">Ready</p> between the titlebar and the compose form, visible by default (no hidden attribute). Reuses the existing .paned-compose-status class and the compose-identity-status role as-is — no CSS or JS changes needed.

  • Verification:

    • php -l on the edited template: no syntax errors.

    • Rendered /forte via local dev server (php -S) and confirmed via curl:

      • New Thread dialog's status paragraph renders without hidden and with text "Ready".

      • Reply panel's status paragraph (paned_board_compose_panel.php) is untouched: still renders with hidden and no text.

    • Code review of browser_signing.js's existing identity pipeline (refreshComposeIdentityFromStorage -> renderIdentityPreparationState -> identityStateMessage) confirms it already targets every [data-role="compose-identity-status"] node within a bound compose root and, in the idle/default case, writes the literal text "Ready." — so once the dialog is opened and JS binds (on the existing focus/intent trigger), the static "Ready" placeholder hands off seamlessly to the real identity status without any new plumbing.

  • Notes:

    • No CSS changes were needed: the dialog already sits on var(--paned-chrome) background matching the reply panel's context, so the existing .paned-compose-status styling (padding, muted ink color, bottom border) fits without modification.

    • This was the only planned stage for this feature.
