LLM Prompt and Response Visibility Step 4 Implementation Summary

Stage 1 - Private exchange boundary and feature flags

• Changes:

  • Added private-configured LLM_EXCHANGE_DATABASE_PATH with a default under state/private/llm_exchanges.sqlite3.

  • Added independent private feature flags for LLM_CONVERSATION_RECORDING_ENABLED and LLM_CONVERSATION_UI_ENABLED, both defaulting to enabled.

  • Added the new settings to the private secrets example and feature-flag registry/config loading.

  • Added focused coverage for default/override database paths and default-on flag behavior.

• Verification:

  • php -l passed for all changed PHP source/test files.

  • ./v3 test FeatureFlagEvaluatorTest LlmExchangeDatabaseConfigTest passed all tests.

  • git diff --check was clean for Stage 1 files; it reports a pre-existing whitespace issue in unrelated todo.txt.

• Notes:

  • The database is only configured in this stage; exchange schema, capture, and web access are staged separately.

Stage 2 - Exact provider exchange capture

• Changes:

  • Added LlmExchangeRecorder with a separate SQLite exchange table and indexes for chronological and related-post lookup.

  • Captured redacted request data and exact response data at OpenAI-compatible and Anthropic provider boundaries.

  • Added exchange context for post analysis and direct agent reply generation, including call type, post, content hash, provider, model, and request ID.

  • Recorded completed, provider-error, malformed-response, and transport-error outcomes while honoring the recording flag.

  • Added focused recorder tests and registered them with the test runner.

• Verification:

  • PHP syntax checks passed for all changed source and test files.

  • ./v3 test FeatureFlagEvaluatorTest LlmExchangeDatabaseConfigTest LlmExchangeRecorderTest OpenAiCompatibleStructuredChatProviderTest AnthropicStructuredChatProviderTest DedalusPostAnalyzerTest passed all tests.

• Notes:

  • Read APIs and web presentation remain in later stages; the recorder currently stores request headers in redacted form and does not receive API keys.

Stage 3 - Authorized exchange read service

• Changes:

  • Added SqliteLlmExchangeStore for bounded chronological, individual, and related-post exchange lookup.

  • Hydrated stored request, response, error, and context JSON into read-model arrays for later safe presentation.

  • Added focused store coverage for ordering, individual lookup, per-post lookup, and payload hydration.

• Verification:

  • PHP syntax checks passed for the new source and test files.

  • ./v3 test LlmExchangeRecorderTest SqliteLlmExchangeStoreTest passed all tests.

  • git diff --check -- src tests passed.

• Notes:

  • Authorization is enforced by the application routes in the next UI stage; the store itself remains a private-database adapter.

Stage 4 - Tools exchange list and conversation pages

• Changes:

  • Added approved-user-only /tools/llm-exchanges/ chronological listing and /tools/llm-exchanges/{id}/ read-only detail routes.

  • Added Tools navigation and a dedicated page entry for LLM Exchanges.

  • Added list and detail templates showing call metadata, related post, exact stored request/prompt, response, and errors.

  • Applied the independent UI feature flag and existing approved-profile authorization before loading exchange data.

  • Kept the private exchange database out of the existing public SQLite viewer/download surfaces.

• Verification:

  • PHP syntax checks passed for Application.php and both new templates.

  • ./v3 test LocalAppSmokeTest FeatureFlagEvaluatorTest preserved the relevant existing route/feature-flag passes; the run also reported pre-existing failures in unrelated profile/core-route/SQLite-viewer/busy-page tests.

• Notes:

  • Per-post contextual links and broader exchange capture wiring remain in the next planned stage.

Stage 5 - Per-post links and operator diagnostics

• Changes:

  • Loaded related exchanges for authorized thread/post rendering and added links to each exchange detail page.

  • Added the private exchange database path to agent_reply_status.php and displayed canonical exchange metadata, exact request, response, and errors.

  • Preserved hidden links and exchange contents for unapproved/anonymous viewers.

• Verification:

  • PHP syntax checks passed for Application.php, the operator CLI, and both post-card templates.

  • ./v3 test LocalAppSmokeTest AgentReplyGenerationTest WriteApiSmokeTest preserved the relevant passes; the run reported the same pre-existing unrelated LocalAppSmokeTest failures.

  • Manual source review confirmed links use the canonical /tools/llm-exchanges/{id} detail route and public download paths remain unchanged.

• Notes:

  • Historical calls without captured exchanges remain unavailable rather than reconstructed.

Stage 6 - Operations and final verification

• Changes:

  • Documented private exchange database configuration, default path, writable-directory requirements, feature flags, and deployment isolation.

  • Added the private database path to the production environment example.

• Verification:

  • Full ./v3 test run completed; all feature-specific tests passed, including exchange recorder/store, provider, feature-flag, post, and web workflow coverage.

  • Five pre-existing LocalAppSmokeTest failures remain unrelated to this feature: missing profile template, core-route/public-key fixture mismatch, bootstrap schema fixture, SQLite viewer CSS assertion, and busy-page assertion.

  • Confirmed changed source/templates pass PHP syntax checks and changed files pass whitespace validation.

• Notes:

  • The implementation is complete on feature/llm-prompt-response-visibility; unrelated existing worktree changes were left untouched.
