Approved User Server Pause Step 1 Solution Assessment
Problem Statement
Approved users need a safe way to pause the server when something looks wrong, with backup access available during that workflow. Source: thread-20260826024038-2e85cfd3, submitted 2026-08-26T02:40:38Z.
Option A: Add an approved-user emergency pause switch
Pros:
Gives trusted users immediate mitigation.
Clear mental model during incidents.
Can pair with visible paused-state messaging.
Cons:
High abuse and availability risk.
Needs strong audit and recovery rules.
Option B: Add a report-and-freeze request requiring operator confirmation
Pros:
Reduces accidental or malicious downtime.
Still captures urgent concern and context.
Easier to fit existing approval trust model.
Cons:
Slower than direct pause.
Depends on operator responsiveness.
Option C: Add backup-first incident controls without pausing service
Pros:
Satisfies the backup concern.
Avoids granting downtime authority broadly.
Lower operational risk.
Cons:
Does not stop active bad behavior.
May feel insufficient in emergencies.
Recommendation
Recommend Option B.
Brief justification:
Pausing production is operationally sensitive, so the first version should route approved-user concerns into an auditable operator-confirmed incident flow.
