Feature plan: Step 1 · Step 2 · Step 3 · Step 4

Debug mode: enabled

Execution Context

  • User enabled FDP debug mode with Step 3 approval; the latest explicit request supplies state without changing approved planning content.

  • Branch: feature/fdp-to-railspike; planning commit: 7bfd0112.

  • FDP had been updated before implementation. Its current organization allowance was applied to the planning commit; approved substantive content remains unchanged.

Stage 1 - Vendored workflow and transition

  • Changes: imported the full pinned Railspike tree, added project subtree/recovery guidance, updated active navigation and plan-index policy, labeled FDP entrypoints as frozen, and disabled legacy updates pending Stage 2.

  • Verification: upstream tree equality and ordinary clone availability passed; shell syntax and whitespace checks passed. php tests/run.php FdpSyncCommandTest PlatformDocsCatalogTest PlatformDocsPageTest PlatformDocsStaticTest: 16/16 passed, including dynamic/static front-controller access to Railspike and legacy entrypoints.

  • Notes: import helper commit precedes this stage completion commit. An initial new test incorrectly expected an absolute link; corrected it to the valid relative link emitted by the existing renderer. No runtime schema change or production deployment.

Stage 2 - Railspike synchronization and legacy alias

  • Changes: v3 dispatches both sync names to scripts/railspike_sync.sh; the FDP alias prints a deprecation notice. The updater validates clean repository roots, source selection, and subtree ancestry; fetches master; merges a squash update; and records the selected remote only after success. Added CLI/recovery guidance and disposable Git repository tests.

  • Verification: php tests/run.php RailspikeSyncCommandTest: 10/10 passed. Scenarios include updates through both names, no-op, ordinary-clone update, override, dirty targets, unexpected/multiple sources, invalid/unmigrated targets, absent metadata/entrypoint, rewritten ancestry, fetch failure, and conflict/abort recovery. A real canonical GitHub fetch/no-op in a separate ordinary clone passed and preserved HEAD. bash -n, PHP lint, and git diff --check passed.

  • Notes: an initial help test assumed the no-argument exit code for --help; corrected to the existing successful help contract. Failure checks assert content/configuration preservation; fetches can populate Git objects/FETCH_HEAD. Conflicts deliberately remain reviewable and can be aborted. No automatic legacy-history repair or deployment.

Stage 3 - Handoff terminology and compatibility

  • Changes: new drafts name Railspike and include its workflow entrypoint; eligibility adds railspike without removing existing tags. Retained fdp_step1, existing records, approval gates, runner behavior, and the canonical PHP/JavaScript previews. Documented the compatibility contract.

  • Verification: combined affected run passed 47/47 tests: RailspikeSyncCommandTest, PlatformDocsCatalogTest, PlatformDocsPageTest, PlatformDocsStaticTest, CodexHandoffDraftServiceTest, CodexHandoffStoreTest, CodexHandoffRunnerTest, and nine handoff-focused WriteApiSmokeTest methods. This includes board/root-label eligibility, reply rejection, both PHP previews, repeated access to a legacy persisted draft, approvals, nonlocal restrictions, lifecycle/rebuild preservation, and a Node DOM harness executing the actual browser preview function. PHP lint and whitespace checks passed; 116 local guide/index/plan links resolved; approved plan contents remained identical.

  • Notes: the browser check uses a DOM harness rather than a full interactive browser. Runner checks use a fake executable, never live Codex. Remaining FDP references are the frozen reference, transition/alias guidance, historical plans, or compatibility identifiers. Only legacy entrypoint notices changed under docs/fdp; no other feature's plans changed.

Completion and boundaries

  • All three stages are complete, with each stage's artifacts and summary committed together after verification. The planning commit came first; subtree helper commits are additional history.

  • Release scope is repository integration on the feature branch. No production deployment, remote push, schema migration, or live agent execution was performed or required. The full unrelated application suite was not run; the affected checks above cover the approved contract.

  • Recovery is documented and rehearsed: preserve local work, correct source/history before retrying, and use merge abort for an unsuccessful subtree merge. The upstream tree remains identical to the approved initial revision.

  • FDP debug mode remains enabled. The completed-step diagnostic report is saved beside this summary in fdp_to_railspike_debug_log.md.
