Private Messaging Live Navigation — Railspike Debug Log

2026-10-13T23:59:04Z — Step 3: Development Plan

Necessary/useful instructions

  • Source: Step 3 After, checklist 3 (normal UI, recovery, and deployment boundaries). Contribution: the plan covers the settings toggle/reset journey, initially disabled pages, and a successful save followed by failed navigation refresh. Retain: these requirements prevent a working API change from leaving the operator without a usable recovery path.

  • Source: Railspike Key Rules, “Prefer shared components/API contracts first.” Contribution: inspection identified canonical navigation eligibility, conditional asset loading, and messaging lifecycle state as shared integration points. The plan reuses the renderer and extends existing lifecycle modules. Retain: duplicated eligibility or navigation markup would make this change harder to verify.

  • Source: Railspike Debug Mode, durable state and recovery. Contribution: the explicit enable request was recorded in the current artifact and inherited into Step 3; the older Step 1 field remains a historical snapshot. Retain: this resolves mode state across successive approvals without changing approved feature scope.

Redundant/unnecessary instructions

No supported findings.

Inapplicable instructions

  • Source: Step 3 After, checklist 3, documentation-only alternative. This cycle plans an application behavior change, so the alternative does not apply even though the current deliverable is a plan. Retain the conditional wording for workflows whose approved outcome is documentation.

Uncertain assessments

  • Source: Step 3 After, checklist 1, “<=1 page.” Markdown has no fixed page dimensions, while the required stage fields and navigation consume substantial space. The plan uses four stages with flat bullets. Clarify a word or rendered-size guideline if strict pagination is intended; this report does not establish that the required fields are redundant.

Verification record

Reviewed stage dependencies, required fields, recovery coverage, debug state, and planning-only file scope. Application implementation and runtime testing have not begun. Plans and this log remain uncommitted pending Step 3 approval.

2026-10-14T00:17:55Z — Step 4: Implementation

Necessary/useful instructions

  • Source: Step 4 Do, Stage Boundary Protocol. Contribution: each of the four stages has verification and its summary update in a separate commit, following the planning commit. This made navigation refresh, unread startup, sync lifecycle, and final release evidence independently reviewable. Retain the stage-scoped commit requirement.

  • Source: Step 4 After, checklist 4 (normal UI and required recovery). Contribution: real signed toggle/reset journeys exposed and verified lifecycle behavior beyond a successful navigation endpoint, including initially disabled pages and theme changes; focused browser checks caught lost focus and observer-driven hiding. Retain the end-to-end requirement.

  • Source: Railspike, organization rule and reference repair. Contribution: plans and the existing log were moved into the feature folder before implementation. The final automated link check caught two source links missed during the initial move; they were repaired without changing approved scope. Retain the rule; explicitly recommend checking all relative links before the planning commit to catch this class of omission earlier.

  • Source: Step 4 Do, verification evidence. Contribution: the full PHP run's eight failures were compared against the unchanged pre-feature commit, rather than being reported as newly introduced or silently ignored. An intermittent concurrent-store failure was recorded with its successful isolated and full-suite reruns. Retain evidence-based reporting of verification outcomes.

Redundant/unnecessary instructions

No supported findings.

Inapplicable instructions

  • Source: Step 4 After, documentation-only verification alternative. The approved result is application behavior, so runtime/browser checks apply. The separate documentation-only alternative was not used. Retain its conditional scope.

  • Source: Step 4 After, checklist 5. Production deployment, external-system changes, and migration were outside this feature's completion boundary; the implementation summary records that boundary. Retain the scope condition rather than requiring unrequested deployment work.

Verification record

All four stages are committed with summary updates. Both full messaging browser journeys passed. Final focused PHP checks passed 46/46. Full PHP run: 1,126 run, 1,118 passed, eight failures reproduced at pre-feature commit 865e6daf; the subsequently added profile-parity check passed in the focused run. Plan links, script syntax, diff integrity, branch history, and authorized file scope were reviewed. Debug mode remains enabled. This entry is advisory and makes no changes to Railspike instructions.
