Closed naming assessment: Project README · Debug log
Debug mode: enabled
Current decision (2026-10-19): Keep the project named v3 for now. Naming exploration is closed for now; the assessment below is historical. No further planning or approval is pending.
Original Query
I noticed that our README says this project is called "PHP Forum Rewrite". Do you think we can work on coming up with a better name for it?
Problem
The current title describes implementation history rather than the project's purpose or personality.
Option A — Threadkeep
A name built around conversations worth keeping, reflecting the project's durable plain-text records and Git history.
Pros: connects discussion and preservation; easy to pronounce; supports the tagline "Conversations worth keeping."
Cons: may sound like an archive first; availability and existing uses need checking before adoption.
Option B — Commonroom
A welcoming place-based name that puts the community experience first.
Pros: approachable; broad enough for discussion, messaging, and community tools.
Cons: ordinary phrase with weaker distinctiveness; availability and existing uses need checking before adoption.
Option C — Zenmemes
Promote the name already used in architecture documentation into the project title.
Pros: continuity with the existing site identity; playful and recognizable within this project.
Cons: suggests a meme-focused community; may conflate the reusable software with a particular instance.
Original recommendation
Explore Threadkeep first, with Zenmemes retained as an instance name if that distinction fits the owner's intent. Prefer a name independent of PHP and rewrite history. These are creative candidates, not availability-vetted names.
The eventual smallest complete slice would be a selected name and coherent README title/introduction. Broader branding, CLI renames, and repository renames require explicit scope decisions in later planning. This assessment makes no product changes. Next discussion should establish whether the desired personality is welcoming, playful, or focused on durable records; revise candidates freely before approval.
Naming exploration request
Request: Create a document with 200 name choices.
Disposition: Expand the current naming exploration in a 200-name companion document (no longer present in this checkout), keeping the assessment concise.
Approval status: User authorized the candidate document; the later v3 decision closes this exploration.
Outcome: Added 200 distinct numbered candidates in ten styles, with brief explanations. No name selected or rename implemented.
Naming decision
Request: "Let's just keep it named v3 for now."
Disposition: Retain v3 and defer alternative names.
Approval status: Direct user instruction supersedes the earlier naming exploration; this simple README title correction needs no further planning.
Outcome: README title updated to v3.
Closeout
The user requested committing and closing this work on 2026-10-19. The README names the project v3; alternative naming and further planning are deferred.
