ui_messages debug log

Railspike debug reports for cycle v3/ui_messages. Debug mode was enabled by the project's .railspike_debug_on marker for this new workflow.

2026-10-29T18:48Z — Step 2 handoff

Necessary/useful instructions

  • RAILSPIKE.md, Experimental Effort Estimation, Score semantics: "Scores above 1.0 prompt a split discussion". The 1.10 intake made the split an explicit decision in Step 2 rather than a surprise in Step 3. Retain.

  • step2_feature_description.md, Structure, "Shared component inventory": listing every existing surface showed that bubbles, day separators, grouped failures and send-attempt recovery already exist, which lowered the estimate and set the "extend, don't replace" direction. Retain.

  • AGENTS.md, Implementation standards: naming reuse decisions up front (account states, background sign-in, <details> menu) before any markup. Retain.

Redundant/unnecessary instructions

  • No supported findings.

Inapplicable instructions

  • step2_feature_description.md, "Known user or environment": the request names no user or machine.

  • RAILSPIKE.md, Documentation-only scope: this is an application change.

  • RAILSPIKE.md, Follow-up Cycles Before Merge: new cycle; the proposed follow-up would get its own branch and ID.

Uncertain assessments

  • step2_feature_description.md, "Concise doc (≤1 page)": a split proposal, five requirement groups and an explicit exclusions list push past one page. Trimming would hide the exclusions (read receipts, Outbox), which are the decisions most worth reviewing. Possibly clarify that exclusions may extend the page.

2026-10-29T18:56Z — Step 3 handoff

Necessary/useful instructions

  • step3_development_plan_do.md, "Prefix usability, data, or rollback risks High risk:": flagging the send-recovery move and the not-a-member sign-in put both in the stages that validate them first (Stage 1, Stage 5). Retain.

  • step3_development_plan_do.md, "Canonical components/API contracts touched" per stage: made the "no API change" boundary checkable stage by stage. Retain.

Redundant/unnecessary instructions

  • No supported findings.

Inapplicable instructions

  • step3_development_plan_do.md, known user or environment replay stage: Step 2 names none.

  • Documentation-only completion contract variant: application change.

Uncertain assessments

  • step3_development_plan_after.md, "Verify <=1 page": six stages with every required field, estimate details and a checkpoint table run past one page; the field list itself sets a floor above that.

2026-10-29T20:07Z — Step 4 handoff

Necessary/useful instructions

  • step4_implementation_do.md, Stage Boundary Protocol: verification before each stage commit caught real defects inside their stage (a first Stage 1 draft that saved the message text in the draft attempt, the "Checking…" state, the sign-in result mapping in Stage 5). Retain.

  • AGENTS.md, "For a reported user/environment failure, replay that condition … a pass elsewhere does not establish recovery", applied to baselines: reproducing failures on a clean worktree separated existing problems (history anchoring, operator-flag test) from this cycle's changes. Retain.

  • AGENTS.md, implementation standards (reuse first): pointed to the board sort menu's opaque-panel pattern and the conversation's follow-the-latest events for Stage 6 fixes, and to an inline partial for the shared account state. Retain.

Redundant/unnecessary instructions

  • No supported findings.

Inapplicable instructions

  • step4_implementation_do.md, documentation-only verification: application change.

  • RAILSPIKE.md, Follow-up Cycles Before Merge: new branch; the follow-up ui_messages_panes is only proposed.

Uncertain assessments

  • step4_implementation_after.md, "Report each applicable check as passed, failed, blocked, pending, or inapplicable": helpful, but browser test files that only export checks for another runner exit 0 when run directly; an instruction to confirm a check actually executed (not just its exit code) would have saved a misleading early "pass".
