Wording

<s>ZENMEMES (small eyebrow above the nav)</s>ZenMemes as a wordmark on the left of the bar. It doubles as the link to Board.

<s>Board · About · Users · Tools · Account · Messages · Invite</s>Board · Users · Messages, plus New post and your avatar.

<s>Account</s>“You” on the phone tab bar. The menu shows your name and approval status, e.g. “ilyag · Approved”.

<s>Invite</s>Invite someone, inside the account menu.

Arrangement

Desktop: one 56px bar. Primary destinations on the left; the one creation action and the account menu on the right.

Phone: a large page title at the top and a bottom tab bar (Board, Users, compose, Messages, You). Today’s seven wrapping buttons take two rows (~120px) before any content appears.

About, Tools, Invite and the theme picker are occasional actions, so they move into the account menu. Theme swatches stay visual and one tap away.

Guests see About in place of Messages, because they cannot use Messages yet.

The decorative Word-97 status bar stays a theme feature, not part of the default shell.

Flow

New post is reachable from every screen. Today it is only on the Board and Tags pages.

The unread Messages badge is a number, not a hidden “Unread status loading” string.

The account menu opens on click or tap, not hover, and closes with Escape. Its first item says who you are signed in as, which today you can only learn on the Account page.

Implementation: the tab bar is a new nav surface. Per AGENTS.md, give it icon mappings in
theme-nav-icons.css
for Word97, Chicago and Midnight.
